How to use beard oil?
Just like the hair on your head, your beard also needs care. This is where beard oils come in handy. These products help reduce itching and dandruff, leaving hair smooth, silky and well-groomed. By moisturizing and conditioning the hair, they further facilitate styling.
Applying beard oil is a fairly simple process. On the other hand, there are a few things to keep in mind, especially if you're just starting to use beard oil or care for your beard in general.
HOW TO APPLY BEARD OIL
- START WITH A CLEAN BEARD
Your beard should be clean, towel-dried, but still slightly damp from water or after a shower (but not too wet, as the beard oil will not stick together). Start by applying a few drops to your hand. We recommend about 3-6 drops, depending on the length of your beard. If you're a beginner, less is more, and as you familiarize yourself with the process, you'll eventually figure out how much you need.
- FIRST APPLY TO SKIN
Rub your hands together to evenly distribute the product, then work it through your beard. First, you want to press the beard oil into the skin to ensure that the beard roots and surrounding skin are moisturized.
- BEARD APPLICATION
After applying to the roots and skin, start applying directly to the beard. Start at the sides of the chin and go down, moving your hands downward. Move your hands down in front in the same swipe down motion. Then move your hands up from the neck to get the underside of the chin as well.
- FINISH WITH A COMB
If you have a mustache, use your index fingers and run them down the front a few times. Finally, use a comb to spread the product evenly over the beard until it is soft and conditioned.
FAQS ABOUT BEARD OIL
1. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BEARD OIL?
Beard oils have many benefits, including:
- Reduce itching by moisturizing hair
- Prevent dandruff by moisturizing the skin under the beard
- Maintains a healthy and well-groomed beard
- Most beard oils, if not all, have a pleasant fragrance that makes grooming even more enjoyable
2. WHEN SHOULD BEARD OIL BE APPLIED?
Beard oil is best applied right after a shower. This is because your beard is completely clean and your pores have opened up from the steam, making it easier to absorb the product.
3. WHAT IF I HAVE OILY SKIN
Those with oily skin may require less beard oil at first, as their natural sebum flows down the mustache to nourish each strand. Still, when the beard is long enough, sebum can only maneuver so far, and split ends/itchiness/dryness still become a problem. In addition, many beard oils have antimicrobial and antifungal properties, while natural sebum can promote fungal proliferation and flaking. So a neutralizing, toning beard oil can often be a suitable replacement for your skin's oil. What's more, a steady introduction of oil can help "train" your skin's natural oil production and teach it to gradually decrease in efficiency as you supplement it with your own regular applications.
4. IS IT POSSIBLE TO APPLY BEARD OIL AFTER SHAVING?
You certainly can. Beard oils contain many moisturizing ingredients that soften the skin and prevent dryness, even if you have little or no hair.
5. SHOULD I USE BEARD OIL EVERY DAY?
Honestly, it's up to you, but in general we recommend applying it every time after every shower and whenever you feel itching and discomfort.
As for how much oil to use for each application, it obviously increases with the volume and density of the beard itself. For shorter beards, we suggest two or three drops, carefully warmed between your fingers.
For longer beards, it's important to remember that some oils may have a thicker consistency than others. Therefore, the application may need to be adjusted for the consistency or viscosity of the oil.
6. SO WHAT IS THE BEST BEARD OIL?
While there is no "best" beard oil, many beard oil users will have their own favorites. One reason for this is the different fragrances available, but also the types and quality of ingredients contained. Look out for beard oils containing argan, jojoba or almond oils.
Beard oil may seem excessive, especially if you have oily skin or a short beard. But the truth is that beard oil is one of the easiest ways to have a healthy, enhanced beard growth. It helps nourish and tone the skin under the mustache.
