How to perfectly straighten your hair at home ?
If you haven't mastered the right techniques, straightening your hair can be time-consuming and difficult. Whether you're trying to smooth your hair or reduce frizz.
Straightening your hair with a straightening iron
Deciding to straighten your hair yourself at home will save you a huge amount of money. Hair salon prices seem to be rising regularly at the moment. So having a straightener can be very useful.
What tools do you need
To get the best results and look after your hair before, during and long after straightening your hair, we suggest you have the following things on hand:
1. A high quality hair straightener - choose one with a wide range of heat settings that has high quality ceramic plates and distributes heat evenly. Choose wider plates for longer hair and thinner plates for shorter hair. It's best to choose fast heat to save time when styling.
3. Heat protection spray - this is to protect hair from potential heat damage. Many good quality heat protectant sprays also impart nutrients and moisture to the hair. Many contain ingredients such as nourishing argan oil, which is rich in antioxidants.
4. Hair clips - and lots of them. They make it much easier to separate sections than just leaving hair loose. You can use regular clips, but we think the best ones are the same ones that many hairdressers use - clips that contain a hinge at one end that can be easily unhooked with one hand when using a straightener.
5. A wide-toothed comb - to comb your hair well before you straighten it. Even if you have just conditioned your hair, it is a good idea to comb through it just before it is completely dry. This makes it easier to separate sections. Wider combs create less friction than finer combs and can also be used to distribute product through the hair
Hair preparation
1. Before you start, you need to wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner. This is not necessary every time, but it will keep your hair straight for the maximum amount of time. However, if you do wash and condition your hair first, make sure you dry your hair thoroughly before using the straightener.
2. Once your hair is thoroughly dry, spray with a heat protectant spray.
3. Then comb your hair well. If you have curly hair, you will need to use a wide-toothed comb for this. Avoid using a hair brush, which can cause friction and therefore frizz. If your hair is very curly or tangled, start at the ends and gradually work your way through the strands.
4. Divide your hair into two to three strands before proceeding with the straightening itself. Secure the individual strands with clips. Brush each strand and then use a straightening iron. It's a good idea to hold your hair down to ensure you get the optimum pressure from the straightening iron for a better straightening result.
5. And now you can enjoy your hair !
REMEMBER: coloured hair needs to be treated more carefully, even if you naturally have strong and healthy hair. If you hear crackling or sizzling at any stage, stop immediately and wait until your hair is completely dry.
We always recommend starting straightening on the lowest heat setting and then increasing it as necessary to prevent damage to your hair. It is always a good idea to use the lowest setting your straightener has.
Why choose a straightener?
Such a device is a great option to have at your fingertips. Not only do they straighten hair, but many can also detangle hair or make gentle waves. The current offerings reach temperature quickly and maintain it consistently. Many have ionic technology, which means static electricity is reduced and hair can appear shinier.
Protection against heat
Straightening your hair, even with the best straighteners, is a bit of a strain. It is therefore advisable to use special heat-protective products. Mousses, sprays etc. are available, which will effectively protect your hair from heat and at the same time make styling easier. Do not skip the use of protective products, especially if your hair is quite damaged. Do not start straightening your hair until the product has been absorbed. Use the hair dryer again if you want to save time.
Fixing the hairstyle
If you want your hairstyle to last longer, you can use fixing cosmetics. A light hairspray won't do any harm. Basically, however, if you follow our advice, the straightening effect will still last. Even without extra hold.
