Protecting your hair at the pool

If you love swimming you need to learn how to protect your hair from chlorine. Chlorine plays a great role in killing bacteria, thus ensuring clean water. It allows you to swim without worry.

After coloring, perming or highlights, your hair is very sensitive. Try to avoid swimming for at least a week after treatments to prevent any chemical reactions such as green hair, premature color fading, dehydration or breakage.

What to do before swimming to protect your hair?

Be sure to wet your hair in the shower before entering the water at the pool. This rinsing allows your hair to "fill up" with clean water, so it has less room to absorb chlorine. After wetting your hair, apply a bit of Moroccan oil, argan oil or coconut oil to your hands and work it into your hair. This will act as a treatment while making your hair slightly waterproof and resistant to damage from chlorinated water while swimming. Too much exposure to chlorine can lead to a lack of volume in the hair.

Use a leave-in conditioner

A leave-in conditioner protects your hair and works the same way as coconut oil. Water and then applying conditioner to your hair can be a great way to keep it healthy and protected while swimming. The hair conditioner forms a protective layer on the hair that prevents chlorine from coming into contact with the hair, giving you the protection you need while swimming.

Protective cap

Wearing a swim cap can be a great way to protect your hair. It will cover your hair and avoid contact with the water. If you choose to wear a cap, you will enjoy beautiful hair at all times. The caps are available in different sizes, so you need to choose the size that perfectly fits your head, providing maximum protection from chlorinated water.

AFTER SWIMMING

Rinse your hair immediately

Rinsing your hair with clean water after swimming is very important, because the longer chlorine and salts stay in your hair, the more damage they will do. Rinse your hair thoroughly for at least 5 minutes to get rid of all the chlorine and salts left in your hair.

Apply shampoo and conditioner

After bathing, shampoo your hair as soon as possible, as this is the best way to remove all the accumulated chlorine in your hair. Also use a clarifying shampoo once a week to remove all the chemicals collected in your hair. Conditioner is essential, as chlorine tends to dry out the hair. Use a comb to distribute the conditioner evenly through your hair. The conditioner will help balance the moisture and protein of the hair lost due to chlorine.

Also, oil your hair once a week and minimize the use of hair appliances such as blow dryers, straighteners and curling irons.

Chlorine won't hurt us once in a while, but if you bathe regularly, remember that you need to take extra care to moisturize and nourish your hair to enjoy its healthy appearance.
